The Rescue of Mr. Rat

April 3, 2015

Mr. Rat, as we've been fondly calling him, somehow found his way into my kitchen one cold wintery night. My dogs found him before we did, unfortunately, and he was roughed up a little. Because of the temperatures and his recuperating wounds, we kept him for a week to rehabilitate his injuries and fatten him up. Today was the day of his release, finally the temperatures were above 60 and he could enjoy his newfound freedom.
I tried my best not to handle him unless absolutely necessary, and the petting moment in the video was to illustrate how wild and fearful he still is of humans. He will acclimate in no time to the wild again and I left a bounty of fruits for him while he re-adjusts to the not-so-pampered life of a wild rat.
Thanks for anyone who was involved throughout his journey and we hope to have the opportunity to save other animals like him!
